ARTIST BIO

Nathalia Suizu is a Melbourne-based artist who strives to live and paint by the mantra, "follow your bliss." Her vibrant creations invite viewers into an uplifting world of colour & magic …

A self-taught painter with a background in interior design, Nathalia's creative expression reflects her widely travelled spirit and animistic worldview. Her bold, maximalist aesthetic draws influence from the rich, folk-art traditions encountered throughout her wanderings, as well as her passion for fashion and textile design. Layered with symbolism and totemic motifs, her captivating visual narratives explore themes of nature, mythology and enchantment. A transformative experience with Andean shamanism in Peru, has left a whimsical, dreamlike imprint on both her being and artworks.

Naïve forms, clashing patterns, textural relief and sparkling adornments are hallmarks of Nathalia's visual language, brought to life in an arresting palette of vividly saturated colour. Working predominantly in acrylics, she employs glitter and metallic leaf embellishments to imbue her creations with an ethereal, shrine-like luminosity. Alongside 2D painted works, her practice has extended into digital, textile and sculptural realms.

Nathalia dances between careful consideration and playful spontaneity in her mark-making, seeking amusemen, balance, resonance, t and meaning in each piece. Her paintings chart an ongoing exploration of consciousness and self-discovery, and are life-affirming manifestations of wonder, beauty and joy.

Nathalia has exhibited at numerous galleries and art fairs throughout Australia and internationally. She has collaborated with notable fashion, retail and lifestyle brands, including Gorman, Erik Yvon, Melbourne Fashion Week, The Social Studio and Strawberry Fields Music Festival. She was a finalist in the Fenton & Fenton Rising Talent Art Prize (2023), the FortyFive Downstairs Emerging Artist Award (2022) and the Ambush Gallery Art Prize (2020).

She is currently represented by Fenton & Fenton and Outré Gallery in Australia, and Galerie Duret in France and the USA.
