Invoking the mythical and the mystical, Shrine summons a pantheon of Goddesses charged with colour, vivacity and enchantment in celebration of the Feminine. Starring women as empowered, multi-dimensional deities and heroes, the exhibition explores archetypes of the Feminine and invites viewers to revere the many faces of the Goddess, her cycles and seasons; to imagine her stories and be inspired by her unique magic.

Shrine reflects Nathalia’s fascination with myth, spirituality and her personal journey as a woman. Through this body of work, she delves into her growing appreciation for womanhood and seeks to praise, honour and uplift through vivid and colourful storytelling.

“For me, the myths are ageless metaphors that powerfully connect me to a sense of wonder and enchantment…They help me to make sense of the mystery of life”

Working in acrylic and gouache mediums, Nathalia’s tightly executed paintings are saturated with vibrant colour and sparkle. Simplified forms, rhythmic line-work and clashing patterns are signature to her visual lexicon. Searching for balance and meaning in each piece, her approach to mark-making is a continuous dance between careful consideration and playful spontaneity.

Nathalia’s art has largely been inspired by her travels. The colourful threads of her Brazilian heritage and experience living in the Sacred Valley of Peru are visibly woven into her artworks. Reverberations of Andean landscapes, Latin festivities, religious and cultural iconography are strongly felt in her paintings.

She highlights her time in Pisac, Peru as a pivotal moment in life, marking the beginning of her journey as an artist. Described as a period of self-discovery, insight and healing by route of traditional plant medicines, this experience continues to influence her creative process and has undoubtedly played an integral role in the development of her artistic identity.
